Twice a each racing season the Midwest Wildbunch
bring thier high horsepower show to Gimli Motorsport Park. On July 30, several of the Mopar Wildbunch
racers came out and put on a great show. George Deplaze and his son Steve brought out a pair of potent
Challengers. George's Challenger is powered by a 498 cube pro stock motor built by Roy Johnson. The name
should be familiar to fans of NHRA pro stock racing as Roy is the engine builder for his son Allen's
Pro Stock Dodge Stratus which is currently in 6th place in the standings. George's Challenger runs in the 7's however
he was not able to make a pass on Sunday due to a pushed out head gaskett.
Steve's Challenger has a 528 cube motor which has powered it to a best et of 8.30@ 163 mph. Both Challengers are
impressivly engineered and built.
Clif Bakx and the Wild Cows Racing team brought out thier unique dragster. Instead of mounting the tin on the outside of the frame
rails, the tin comes to a point just ahead of the front wheels and continues inside the frame rails up to the cockpit.
I'm not sure that there is an aerodynamic advantage but it sure looks cool. The powerplant is a Brad Anderson Engineering
Blown Injected alcohol burning Hemi that propels Clif to a mid sixes at over 200 mph.
MMA Racers were well represented by Harry Penner and his wild blown alcohol big block 68 Dart. Harry's Dart has a subtle paint scheme
featurning a warrior princess fighting demons (and not the Dodge variety). There is no way to miss this Dart in the pits. The Ken Murray built 540 cube Indy Maxx
motor has produced a best et of 7.82 @ 175 mph.
MMA member David Korbaylo was also out with his "TUT" Super Gas Dodge Dakota. This is a gorgeous Hemi Powered race truck which runs on a 9.90 dial.
